It takes around 4-6 hours to do for most people. If it's an 03-05 you can remove the EGR valve totally. Since the EGR system is not working at this point it doesn't really matter anyway. If you have an 06-07 truck it seems like they will throw a check engine light if you delete the EGR.
The next step is to ensure that the Check Engine Light does not come on. Locate the harness for the EGR Temp Sensor. It can be found a few inches above the back side of the throttle body (circled in green). The most authoritative info I found was on some epa (or other government site) that said tampering with factory emissions was illegal for street vehicles and permissible only for off road vehicles.

The biggest improvement is seen when a faulty EGR is blanked. but it depends on the car, driving style, etc etc. With the (solid) blanking plate fitted, the EGR system cannot fail anymore (scince it is disabled) so long term reliability is improved. A solid plate prevents any more carbon from contaminating the intake/ inlet manifold of the Qt1F.
